New Do

Well hello to all of Ava’s fans. We have been very busy. Brian and I have been painting the exterior of our house. It has been a pain to say the least. However it is a huge job and we will get it done soon.

I decided it was time to give Ava a “Pixie” hair cut. It is adorable and fits her to a “T”! Take a look for your self.

She is doing really well….in fact sometimes I forget how sick she was. THAT my friends is a good thing! She smiles a lot and is talking and saying SO many more words. I have been asking her question and she answers them. I am so shocked. The other day I asked her where her Daddy was? She answered “Worch” AND the I asked where her sisters were and she said “Soool”. I was so happy. Slowly but surely she will get it.

A few more pictures of today.

This is a historic street in our town called “Cobblestone Alley”. One of the oldest streets still left standing. It makes a great spot for a picture.

Saying Goodbye

Ava is doing well. She gets into so many things. She is like a little tornado. I can’t believe one little girl can do as much damage to a house that she can do! It is great to have Ava back. She is now taking speech in our home. It is so nice and we love her teacher. Her vocabulary is slowly growing!

Tuesday was a very sad day in the Helmick household. We had to put our dog to sleep. Belle was the last of our three Bichon Frise’s to pass away. I had gotten Benny our male when I was thirteen. Then when Brian and I got married he came with me SO Brian got an added bonus! A year after that we got Belle. Then a year after that she had two puppies. One named BJ (Benny Junior) and the other was a female but passed away at birth. They were very mellow dogs. They loved children. The girls grew up loving the dogs. Benny was put down about eight years ago due to a skin problem. It at the time was the hardest thing we’d been through. He was like my baby. Belle and BJ were the cutest. They played constantly. BJ always biting at Belle (his mama’s) ears. BJ became very big and was diagnosed with diabetes. We also had to put him down a few years ago. His health deteriorated very quickly. Lately Belle had been going down hill. She was blind and deaf. A year ago or so she too began developing skin sores and it was very hard to heal. We are very sad but are coping. It really is like losing a member of your family.

I put together some old and new pictures of our life with our Blessed Dogs. We will forever miss you Benny, BJ and Belle Girl!

I found a poem that says it all.

I Haven’t Left At All

I saw you gently weeping as you looked through photographs
You paused for just a moment at one that made you laugh.
But as you turned more pages the tears began to flow
You whispered that you missed me but I want you to know;
I softly licked those stinging tears that down your cheeks did fall
I want to help you understand I haven’t left at all.

On those days that you are overcome with sorrow, pain and grief
I rest my head upon your leg to offer some relief.
When you take our walking path I’ve seen you turn around
Because I know you surely heard my paws upon the ground.

At night while you are sleeping I snuggle at your side
You stroke my fur as you touch that place where I used to lie.
You said it’s just your heart playing tricks upon your mind
But rest assured I’m really there, my spirit’s left behind.

I know your heart is hurting; it’s like an open sore
You think my life has ended and you won’t see me anymore.
But for those of us bound tight by love, death is not the curtain call;
It’s really the eternal beginning that waits for us all
So, dear Master as you live your life I patiently await
For us to be together when you pass through Heaven’s gate.

So I believe that God will calm our hearts and we can surely be thankful that we were so Blessed to be able to have them for a time. We miss them greatly. The death of Belle brings back all the memories of all three.

We are praising God in Ava’s continued healing. We thank Him for His power to save and His everlasting LOVE>
